Linux Introduction

Posted in Personal by Thinh La @ Jun 28, 2005

After trying to install various linux distros from Fedora to Mandrake, I think I’ll stick with RedHat because it’s very easy to install and configure almost like Windows. I am trying to put together successful how-to do it with Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS. Here’s my first screen shot of the Red Hat dual-boot with Windows XP

Amazing R/C video

Doesn’t this video make you go out and buy yourself a nice R/C off-road truck? Just kidding…. You need to press “PLAY” button to start the movie if you’re using IE but I think Firefox will play it automatically.

MaxiJet Modification

Posted in Saltwater Hobby by Thinh La @ Jun 5, 2005

Inspried by a thread on Reef Central, I want to try out this DIY MaxiJet modification. It’s very easy considering you have all the tools to work with. The good thing about this mod is that you can actually change it back to original state of MJ powerhead if something is wrong or broken. The bad thing about this mod is that sometimes the prop. turn the wrong way. I just have to unplug and plug it back until I have the right direction. Some people can actually overcome this situation.

Part list:
- 3/32 S.S. rod (from hobby store or metal supermarket)
- 3/32 titanium rod (if you’d ‘be able to find one)
- silicone airline tubing (very small for coupling)
- rigid tube
- 1.5″ PVC/ABS pipe
- 1.5″ PVC/ABS cap
- all plastic boat propeller (from hobby store or Radioshack)

Update: when I put it in my 90G tank this blows too much and I am not really ready for it yet. I am gonna use this mod once I set up another new 120G tank in the future.

Firefox Recommendation

I have been using FireFox browser quite a time now and I gotta tell you that I so much like this browser. The ability to use Adblock and other quite useful extensions such as ForecastFox amazes me the most. Once you felt in love with this browser, you would never want to go back with Internet Explorer.

Another plus point for this browser is the ability to utilize themes. Though I am not much of a theme-savvy guy, I must say there are lots of nice looking themes out there that fit your need. Most popular Firefox themes

The most important of Firefox features is that this browser can be highly customized to the way you want it to be from changing the size font of broswer menu to the way the browser reacts and opereates. Visit Firefox Help: Tips & Tricks section and see it for yourself.

I still use both IE and Firefox for the time being. Firefox is mainly for the web browsing and searching while Internet Explorer is for testing my developed web pages. It was the other way around before I discoverd Firefox. Just don’t take my word for this browser, take eveyone’s word who has felt in love with this browser. If you’re using Firefox right now and haven’t discovered its great ability compared to IE, your first good start would be community forum for Firefox browser. ;-)
